Being back in Wyoming also means being around water again! That translated into many weekends spent out in the mountains enjoying the lakes. We especially really enjoyed Louis Lake this summer. It's at the top of the mountains and is absolutely gorgous. There is a perfect beach for Quincey to plan at, good fishing for Joe, and perfect swimming for me. It felt great to be back in my wet suit swimming the lakes.
For Joe's birthday, he got a kayak so he could fish out in the open water instead of always on the shore. He spent many hours researching which one he wanted and not so patiently waited for it to finally arrive. We were able to take it out numerous times and he absolutely loves it!
Thats my fish I caught. I was so proud of myself because I never catch anything. Joe set up my fishing pole and sent me out on the kayak. I couldn't believe it when I got a bite and was so excited but quickly I realized that I had no idea what to do with it once I reeled it in. So, I got it in the kayak and it was flapping around and I have seen Joe take his fish and hit the head on a rock to kill it so, out in the middle of the lake, I took the kayak paddle and started swinging at it, trying to kill it. It just kept flopping around and flopped around enough that the hook came out. So, I figured since it survived my attack on its life, it deserved to live so I snapped a quick picture and sent it on its way.
We even rented a cabin at Louis Lake once so we could stay there and not have to come home, although it's only an hour drive away. It was fun to roast marshmallows and sleep in a rustic cabin with no electricity.
We also spent time hiking up to the slide in Sinks Canyon. I did the slide once when the Logans lived here but opted not to do it this time. However, let me tell you about the first time we tried to go to the slide. We set out in the afternoon and I knew the path to get there but had forgotten that it's actually a lot of work, especially carrying a toddler the whole way. We were almost there but stopped at a little pond right before it. While taking a rest there, it started to rain. I was a little bit worried because we didn't pack warm clothes or anything. I told Joe that I wanted to head back but he said it would be best if we just hunkered down and waited for the storm to pass. We spent the first 10 minutes under some trees that gave us a little reprieve from the rain but then, it started to hail. Joe saw an overlook of rocks and under a little cave that we were able to squeeze into. By the time the storm passed, about 10 minutes later, we were all soaking wet but in good spirits. However, we high tailed it out of there as fast as we could. Quincey was shivering so I gave her my sweater. She never cried once. I was so glad that I listened to Joe and stayed put to wait for the storm to leave. Otherwise, we would have been trying to hike down a significant hill full of slippery mud getting poured on. I have no doubt Quincey would have been bawling through that. It was an adventure and luckily, an adventure that ended well.
